The old ship engine factory of the “Rheinschifffart” where the Brasilea Fondation is situated, was built in 1963. It is located in the green strip parallel to the Rhein river at the border triangle in direct neighbourhood to France and Germany.
The industrial design of the building is reinforced by an overhanging crane, which was conserved as a significant time witness and landmark of the harbour. Two materials further determine the architectural design of the building, which is oriented alongside the river in horizontal planes: reinforced concrete and translucent fibreglass. These materials give the building a shimmering and glittering appearance as the light is reflected by the building`s façade. The architecture and design of the building combine industrial functionality and robustness with elegance and lightness. This makes it a perfect venue for exhibitions, celebrations, conferences and other events in Basel.
